Boondocking and Diving

Captain Mark Garcy at Florida Excursions kindly offered to let me park next to his boat for while. I like my new friend.

We stopped at Lover’s Key State Park for a nice afternoon. J had to work, but C took a walk. We thought it might be a good idea to get an annual pass for the Florida State Parks. Don’t know if we’ll break even on it, but it does encourage us to visit the parks.

Tracking Florida State Park Annual Pass Usage: $120 – $8 = $112

C got in some more dives and we chilled at the Delnor Wiggins State Park for a few day trips. There’s some strange vegetation here.

C got in a few shore dives and two boat trips. On one of the shore dive, she saw a multitude of live sand dollars on the sea floor. She estimated about 25-30 within a square yard. On one of the boat dives, she found two dead sand dollars that were at least 6 inches in diameter. On another dive, she found a conch shell that was 8 inches long.

Tracking Florida State Park Annual Pass Usage: $112 – (3 x $6) = $94

We took a drive one day to check out a few more parks. First stop was Collier-Seminole State Park.

Tracking Florida State Park Annual Pass Usage: $94 – $5 = $89

Then we drove east to Big Cypress National Preserve and checked out a few of the campgrounds. For future reference, Midway Campground has full hookups but bad cellular service while Monument Lake Campground has no hookups but great cellular service (note the cell tower on the road in).

Only a few more miles down the road was the Shark Valley Visitor’s Center at Everglades National Park. No need to track the break-even point on C’s National Parks Annual Pass, that paid for itself before she left Utah! C had visited here a few year’s ago with MCB and she highly recommends the Tram Tour, but they didn’t take the time for that this trip. But I got my picture taken!

And C was surprised by these guys behind her while she was taking my picture!

And check out the new tattoos.
