Arches, #1 of the Mighty 5

We parked at Green River State Park for two nights. Saturday morning, October 30, C woke up early and decided it was time to head over to Arches National Park in time to see the sun rise.

After driving all the way into the park, we stopped at the Devil’s Garden trailhead and C headed out with a goal of making it to the Double O arch, but turned back at a particularly treacherous point. I don’t blame her.

The four mile hike wore C out and it was time for lunch. We stopped at this spot with a nice view of Balanced Rock.

After lunch, we ran into Moab for some human and truck fuel. We then wandered over to #2 in the Mighty Five, Canyonlands National Park.

After a good night’s sleep, the time change ‘Fall Back’ prevented another sunrise over Arches. Regardless, we arrived at the Delicate Arch trailhead early enough for a primo parking place. C met a really neat young lady from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. She was on her way east and gave me some pointers about Zion. Thanks for the pics and the great conversation, H.R!
